| Derwood, MD (May 15, 2026).- Montgomery County is facing a fiscal reckoning created by years of unchecked government expansion, irresponsible spending, and failed economic leadership. The latest budget analysis confirms what residents and small businesses already know: taxpayers are being asked to pay more while receiving less in return. “The bill has come due,” said Harold Maldonado. “County leadership has spent years growing government at an unsustainable pace while ignoring the economic burden placed on working families, homeowners, and local businesses. Instead of prioritizing fiscal discipline, they doubled down on higher spending, bureaucracy, and policies that continue driving residents and employers out of the county. This shows how incompetent they are at doing their job.” Every year, Montgomery County residents are forced to watch the same political theater: the County Executive proposes a bloated budget, the County Council publicly stages disagreements over taxes and spending, and in the end, both sides deliver the same outcome — bigger government, higher spending, and more financial pressure on taxpayers. The annual budget debate has become less about solving fiscal problems and more about selling the illusion of disagreement while protecting a shared agenda of unchecked government growth. Residents deserve honest leadership and real fiscal accountability, not carefully scripted political performances designed to justify the county’s ongoing spending crisis. Maldonado warned that rising taxes, nascent structural deficits, and continued overreliance on government spending threaten Montgomery County’s long-term economic competitiveness and affordability. He called for immediate reforms focused on spending accountability, transparent budgeting, economic growth, and restoring fiscal responsibility. “Residents deserve a government that lives within its means just like they do and cannot afford to keep voting for democrats,” Maldonado added. “Montgomery County cannot continue spending like there are no consequences. Democrats in office are spending our hard-earned tax dollars like drunken sailors. Imagine if Republicans were in office, the media and the public would be up and arms, demanding their immediate resignation. Without serious reform, taxpayers will continue footing the bill for failed policies and financial mismanagement.” ### Maldonado for Council: info@haroldmaldonado.com |
